Hello!

My name is Emily Hansen and I am the owner of Water & Sage Counseling. Seeking support is not always easy and I'm happy you're considering talking with a counselor. My job is to provide you opportunities to safely explore the elements of your life that are getting in your way and support you while you develop skills and strengths to improve your wellbeing. You have unique needs and experiences and I will orient my work to you accordingly to create a counseling experience that is helpful and productive.

My Approach

I tend to focus my efforts on helping people develop skills and behaviors early on in counseling that they can practice outside the session to improve their day to day functioning. Additionally, I like to learn about your relationships with your family, peers, and community as a way to better understand your values, expectations, and goals. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing in my work and orient from a strengths-based, wellness perspective. Not all people resonate with those approaches, however, and I will incorporate elements of other counseling theories/approaches as needed.
